The moment we have been waiting all offseason for is finally here: Michael Kopech day. The right handed flame-thrower is seeing Major League action today at 2 p.m. CT in a Spring Training battle at Camelback Ranch.
Currently ranked as the #10 prospect in the league, Kopech is a better version of Bobby Jenks in the form a starter. That’s even an understatement; This man is the real deal and his Spring Training start today is the start of a new era of White Sox baseball. A rotation headed by James Shields can finally be something to fear when our version of Noah Syndergaard makes his way to the big leagues. In the 2017 Futures Game, Kopech blew 3 pitches past Moncada and sent him back to the dugout.
Kopech was shipped to the Southside along with Yoan Moncada and others in the Chris Sale deal. The main trade that birthed the 2020 World Series Champions.
In January of last year, Kopech was clocked at 110 mph. Yes, 110 fucking miles per hour. Granted that with during an APEC drill with a crow hop, but we know this man throws flames and consistently hits triple digits.
So when the clock strikes 2 this afternoon, sit back, strap it down and enjoy the future ace of the good guys go to work.
